West Monroe' Paul A. DeCotis Named One of New York's 'Responsible 100' Honorees

NEW YORK CITY - West Monroe Partners, a national business and technology consultancy, today announced that Paul A. DeCotis, a senior director and head of West Monroe’s East Coast Energy & Utilities practice, is one of City & State’s Responsible 100 Honorees. The Responsible 100 list recognizes 100 of New York’s most outstanding corporate citizens. City & State celebrated the accomplishments of DeCotis and other honorees at a luncheon today at New York University.

The Responsible 100 annually recognizes New York executives, thought leaders, visionaries, and influencers who are setting new standards of excellence, dedication, and leadership in improving their communities and making transformative change by promoting one of the core principles of social responsibility: charity, community engagement, customer service, diversity and inclusion, equity, ethics, transparency, sustainability, and volunteerism.

“Thank you to City & State for this recognition, but more importantly for highlighting the exceptional and diverse contributions of the entire group of honorees,” DeCotis said. “It is an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to work with clients and within our communities to promote better, safer delivery of energy, and promote the sustainability of our environment.”

DeCotis has more than 30 years of experience as an industry executive, consultant, steward, thought leader, and adjunct professor of 26 years at Sage Graduate School, Cornell University, and Rochester Institute of Technology. Among his consulting responsibilities with West Monroe, he helps investor-owned and municipal utilities, independent energy companies, and government agencies respond to the changing business environment, customer needs, and society’s demands.

“Paul’s personal and professional interests reflect his passion for improving the health and viability of the people, communities, and environment around us,” said Gil Mermelstein, managing director and West Monroe’s New York office leader. “His contributions to our clients and community represent a true intersection of our work as a business and technology consultancy and our core value of social responsibility.”

DeCotis is a board member of the Delta Institute in Chicago; chair of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee reviewing the energy resource development potential on U.S. Department of Energy-owned lands; and a columnist and editorial board member of the Wiley Natural Gas and Electricity Journal, and Springer’s Energy Efficiency Journal. He is also a board member of the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center at Stony Brook University, an advisory board member for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Strategic Energy Analysis Center, and a past member of the Board on Energy and Environmental Systems of the National Academies in Washington, D.C.

Prior to joining West Monroe in 2014, DeCotis held several roles responsible for shaping energy policy, strategy, and legislation in New York and the Northeast. As energy secretary and chair of the state energy planning board for two New York governors, Paul was instrumental in establishing and implementing the state’s clean energy initiatives. He also was a member of the mayor’s energy planning board in New York City. DeCotis continues to write extensively on energy and environmental issues of the day.

“City & State is pleased that we can play a role in acknowledging the accomplishments and contributions of New York’s most responsible leaders,” said City & State President & CEO Tom Allon. “We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on these 100 winners who all set a clear example for their peers by promoting corporate social responsibility and authenticity in every area of their enterprises.”
