West Monroe Partners Introduces Distributed Generation Services

Capabilities Streamline and Improve Complex Enrollment, Approval, and Reporting Processes

West Monroe Partners, a full-service North American business and technology consultancy, today announced that it has added Distributed Generation services to the suite of solutions currently provided by its Energy & Utility practice. These services support utilities and cities embracing a growing number of small-scale, distributed generation (DG) technologies that produce power at the point of consumption, with capabilities that extend from customer enrollment to municipal integration.

To assist utilities with administrative processes for completing interconnection and net metering approvals within state-mandated time requirements, West Monroe Partners evaluates current enrollment processes and develops improvement recommendations. It also examines utility data management for DG enrollments to ensure proper records management and reporting. The firm’s Distributed Generation services also include capabilities for helping utilities understand real-time impact of DG loads on grid operations.

West Monroe Partners also works with many large municipalities to assess, design, and implement process and technology improvements to expedite permitting and zoning approvals.

“Distributed generation promises attractive benefits, but its rapid acceleration in adoption—the result of technology cost reductions, state and federal subsidy programs, and enhanced state grid access rules—are straining utilities’ resources and operations,” said Tom Hulsebosch, managing director of West Monroe Partners’ Energy & Utilities practice. “Our experience with distributed generation to date has enabled us to help utilities and municipalities streamline complex enrollment, approval, and reporting processes.”

To complement its Distributed Generation services, West Monroe Partners also is introducing ConnecttheGridTM, a cloud-based platform that enables utilities to enroll, track, report on, and forecast their service territory’s distributed generation resources more effectively.
