Alumni Spotlight: Kate Groot, Nationwide Children’s Hospital

Empowering people to do fulfilling work is our first priority, no matter where their career journey takes them. We caught up with Kate, a former senior consultant in our Operations Excellence practice.

Alumni Spotlight: Kate Groot, Nationwide Children’s Hospital

As a senior process improvement specialist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Kate Groot splits her time between working on specific process improvement projects that can come in from any department in the hospital and embedding the concept of process improvement into the organizational culture. This includes various mentoring and training programs her department implements to make continuous improvement a natural part of how the hospital works.

Kate always felt her skills in process improvement could be used to make a direct, meaningful impact on people’s lives. As she gained more experience in West Monroe’s core industries, she became particularly interested in healthcare as an area that needed some help catching up with improvement processes. Children’s healthcare resonated as a specialty where she could contribute significant value.

As a smaller consulting firm, West Monroe gave me access to experiences and leaders in a way I may not have gotten at a larger firm. ”

Kate says the foundational business skills she learned at West Monroe have contributed greatly to her leadership journey today. “As a smaller consulting firm, West Monroe gave me access to experiences and leaders in a way I may not have gotten at a larger firm. The opportunity to scope projects and quickly identify business goals has helped me create forward momentum with my projects at Nationwide Children’s—this has been particularly helpful during COVID-19. In addition, the access I had to leaders (in particular, women leaders) helped me prioritize what’s most important in my career – especially as a new mom!”
