Mel Heckman is a senior manager in West Monroe Partners’ Operations Excellence practice in Chicago. He has more than 20 years of experience in enterprise resource planning (ERP), information technology infrastructure, custom development, and business intelligence across a wide range of industries.
Mel Heckman is an influential and business-focused chief information officer/chief technology officer with a strong technical and business background and a track record for delivering high-impact IT initiatives. Through most of his consulting career, he has served in a CIO advisory role. He excels at leading teams to implement enterprise-wide process improvements that enable business agility and growth.
Mel applies a range of technical expertise, from software development to infrastructure management, to address critical business challenges. In particular, he has extensive experience with ERP implementation, custom development, database management, business intelligence, cloud infrastructure, and IT security. Through a diverse array of implementation projects, he has developed deep knowledge of warehouse management and business-to-business technologies. He was a key developer in the design and development of the Aqueduct warehouse management system (WMS) used by many mid-market organizations.
Mel joined West Monroe Partners in 2017 from Plano Synergy, the nation’s largest outdoor hunting and fishing organization, for which he was director of business analytics. He led high-priority board initiatives, including development of a multi-million-dollar business intelligence system and integration of ERP systems, to drive performance improvement.
Previously, Mel was chief information officer, managing director, and founding partner of S2 Consulting, Inc., a consultancy specializing in outsourced IT services, custom development, and process improvement. He sold the firm to Sikich, LLP in 2012 and assumed responsibility for building the Business Intelligence practice from the ground up. Mel also founded and was the chief information officer and a managing director of Empirical Solutions, Inc., a venture capital-funded firm specializing in ERP system implementation and process improvement software integration.
Mel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Management and Information Systems from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a primary focus on Finance from The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
