Session #1 - Branching Your Way to Glory – Source Control for the System Administrator
Presenters: Frank Lesniak and David Wiggs

Using PowerShell? Great! This session will show you how to take it to the next level and collaborate with members of your team more effectively. During this session we will review fundamental principles of source control, and how they can add value to system administration/configuration efforts. You will learn how to configure Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS) so that it can be leveraged in combination with Visual Studio Code (VSC) to create the ultimate PowerShell development platform for any administrator. We will also share a script that configures application and user settings for integration between VSTS, VSC, and PowerShell. At the end of the session, you should be:
  • Familiar with how you can use VSTS as a code/script repository, and VSC as an integrated development environment (IDE)
  • Knowledgeable of how to create feature branches, commits, pull request, and review policies
  • Conversant in licensing implications with VSTS for large team sizes
