Time Varying Rates: the Current Landscape, Customer Experience, and the Future

Thursday, August 29, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM EST

Traditional residential utility rates typically have a set price based on average cost of providing electricity. Time varying rates offer an opportunity for customers to better manage electricity use and bills, and utilities to manage and meet daily variations in customer demand by providing customers pricing signals. Time varying rates are in early stages, but some governments, including Ontario and California, are adopting policies to encourage adoption. Panel will explore current state of adoption, lessons learned from pilots and larger scale implementations, regulatory concerns, customer education and understanding, and the outlook for Time Varying Rates, including Real Time Pricing strategies.
