Mike Wayman is a senior director in West Monroe Partners’ Energy & Utilities practice. He has more than 20 years of industry and consulting experience leading large business process improvement, system implementation, and change management programs to address a wide range of business goals.

Mike Wayman is an accomplished energy and utilities industry leader and consultant who pairs his expertise in diverse smart meter/grid technologies with deep business experience in utility operations, regulatory compliance, financial management, and project management.

Mike joined West Monroe Partners following several years as an independent consultant to Southern California (SCE) Edison, where he served in both strategic and tactical roles within the business integration area of SCE’s  smart meter implementation which is one of the largest programs in the US. Upon joining West Monroe Partners, Mike led a team of experienced business consultants and deep technologists to implement a multi-year smart grid program for the City of Naperville (Illinois), and then provided management consulting services to the leadership of Midwest utility related to planning and mobilizing their smart meter program.

Previously, Mike managed the Sarbanes-Oxley IT program that enabled British Petroleum (BP) to achieve SOX compliance within 18 months, and he served as a manager in BP’s IT Compliance and Assessment Group, leading a team of IT and compliance professionals responsible for identifying, assessing, and improving BP’s IT operations and regulatory compliance activities.

Mike began his career as a project engineer and industrial accounts technical analyst with Nicor in Naperville, Illinois. He also has held manager roles in the Energy and Utilities consulting practices of BearingPoint and Arthur Andersen.

Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Marquette University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He is Prosci certified in organizational change management.
