Jeff Smith


Jeff Smith is a Certified Energy Manager who brings eight years of experience in customer-based energy resources, demand management strategies and distributed power systems. At West Monroe, Jeff is a senior principal in the Energy & Utilities practice specializing in supply- and demand-side management of utility resources, with an emphasis on demand management and renewables integration. He is passionate about implementing utility solutions that deliver electricity in an efficient and effective manner.


Jeff has a unique ability to help utility clients bring new technologies to market. He supports clients with upfront requirements gathering and business case evaluations, identifying the right solutions and understanding the benefit streams. During the technology implementation phase, Jeff has coordinated and executed a defined User Acceptance Testing approach that allows clients to fully understand and test the new technology’s functionality, performance, operational and customer-facing impacts. 

Jeff joined West Monroe Partners in 2011 from Recycled Energy Development, a clean energy project development/acquisition firm headquartered in Westmont, IL. In his four years with the firm as a markets analyst and project developer, he specialized in conducting energy and environmental audit investigations at multiple industrial/utility complexes, advising clients on energy management strategies and testing/implementing technical solutions.  

Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering/Engineering Management from Tufts University, MA, and a Master of Public Administration degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University, NY. He also has completed coursework in project management at Villanova University. Jeff is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
