Chris Stafford is a senior manager in West Monroe Partners’ Mergers & Acquisitions practice. He has over 9 years of management and technology consulting experience, advising private equity investors and corporate executives on transactions across various industries, with a primary focus on the software & high-tech space and extensive experience leading post-close integration and separation teams.

Chris Stafford specializes in pre-close technology and operational transaction advisory and post-close integration and separation leadership. He has performed more than 100 pre-close technology and operational due diligence assessments and has led dozens of post-close engagements for leading private equity firms and strategic buyers. 

Chris helps lead West Monroe’s software due diligence offering, assisting middle-market investors and executives with evaluating their technology investments and growth plans from various perspectives, including product management, product development, front/back office operations, and technology operations. 

In addition to post-close Integration/Separation Management Office (IMO/SMO) expertise, he also delivers West Monroe’s innovative Carve-out Readiness & Execution (CORE) solutions. CORE leverages a network of technology and service providers that offer a “one-team” approach to reduce delivery risk, shorten the separation time, and allow strategic and private equity clients to focus on value creation earlier in the holding period.

Most recently, Chris has led several post-close SMO/IMO teams supporting middle-market software businesses. Examples of his recent experience includes: 
  • SMO/carve-out leadership over all business functions for a carve-out of a $40 million financial services software-as-a-service (SaaS) business over 8 months, purchased by a private equity investor from a large public parent company and requiring a cloud migration of the company’s core product 
  • IMO leadership over all business functions for a software-as-a-service (SaaS) business that acquired and merged with a carved-out entity from a privately-owned entity 
  • IT SMO and TSA negotiation leadership for a healthcare services provider being spun out as a for-profit entity from a top 20 US non-profit hospital system
While his primary focus is on transactions in the software and high-tech sector, Chris has supported transactions involving companies in the healthcare, medical device, life sciences, and professional services industries over the course of his career. 

Chris earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Miami University’s (Oxford, Ohio) Farmer School of Business.
