Paul Cotter


Paul Cotter is a senior security architect with West Monroe Partners, based in Chicago. He has more than 15 years of experience in software, infrastructure, and organizational security for Fortune 100 companies.


An experienced and practiced consultant with a strong background in network/infrastructure security, identity management, and application security, Paul works with an array of clients to facilitate transformational security initiatives that protect their data, operations, and customers. He analyzes existing organizational, infrastructure, and application security challenges and usage; identifies opportunities for improvement; and develops practical roadmaps for improving security posture. Paul’s expertise includes PKI, identity, cryptography, and secure software design and implementation, and he has broad experience enterprise mobility challenges, solutions, and applications.

Paul also works with private equity and strategic buyers involved in or preparing for investments and acquisitions. He has performed functional diligence projects in the security project space, including endpoint protection, network intrusion detection, threat intelligence, and deep packet inspection products. In addition, he has been involved in dozens of technology and IT due diligence projects across a wide range of industries, including software and technology (SaaS and on-premises), security services, retail, healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services. He also supports post-transaction security risk mitigation planning and execution.

Prior to joining West Monroe Partners, Paul was a program manager with Microsoft and a participant in multiple product releases. These products involved enterprise identity management solutions, core operating system security, mobile devices, device management, cloud services, and many other technical disciplines.

Paul began his career with roles at Abbott Laboratories, Bond Technologies, and Katten Muchin Rosenman, where his programming and infrastructure capabilities led to an increasing focus on security, identity, software design, and architecture.

Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with honors from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
