Chicago Solar Express to Drive Solar Development and Create Green Jobs

Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Environmental Law and Policy Center and West Monroe Partners announced today the launch of Chicago Solar Express, a streamlined and progressive permitting, zoning and interconnection process established for residents and developers seeking to place solar installations on residential and commercial projects.

West Monroe Partners served as the program manager for the City’s federal grant award by the US Department of Energy (DOE), under the SunShot Initiative’s Rooftop Solar Challenge.  On the City side, the team worked with the Department of Buildings and the Department of Housing & Economic Development to re-engineer the way rooftop solar applicants applied for permits and received zoning approvals. Working with ComEd on the utility side, West Monore Partners designed and ultimately built an online submission tool to streamline the interconnection and net metering approvals processes for distributed generation systems.
